CVHS 9th grade email update for December 5th, 2008
General Info:
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the green
and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to bring it
to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful recycling
dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us. We take
catalogs and magazines!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on October
8, 2008. So if you are interested, please let me know, or sign up to lock
in the current price.
From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre):
- We will be working on improvisation exercises next week
- Test on improvisation 12th December.
- Final exam – 16th December – cumulative.

From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):
- Chapter Test over Europe Chapter 8 Thursday and Friday Dec 11th and 12th.
Monday and Wednesday Dec 15th and 17th review for final exam. Tuesday, Dec
16th library meeting with Ms. Chapman. Counselor during Geography period for
all 9th graders.
- Parents:
- In the spring all 9th graders will look at the requirements for four
colleges. Is there any thing that you want to know about a college requirement?

From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- Your final will be broken into two parts:
- Essay - 40% - Due 12/15
- Multiple Choice Exam - 60% - Due 12/17
- For the Essay portion, you need to respond to one of the prompts
found on the class website in a well developed, academic essay. No
first or second person allowed! Papers must be typed, double-spaced,
Times New Roman font, and between 2-3 pages. If you do not meet these
guidelines, you will lose major points. You will turn in the essay
to me Monday, 12/15. If you do not have a hard copy to turn in that
day, you may turn it in late the following day, but the highest grade
you can receive is a 70. The essay is 40% of your final exam grade.
- The multiple choice part of the final exam will happen in class
12/17. It is worth 60% of your final exam grade. You are responsible
for the following topics:
- All literature read this semester, including summer reading
- Phrases and Clauses
- Parts of an essay (Jane Schaeffer method and thesis information
discussed in class.)

From Mrs. Matsu (Biology):
- By now, students should have read chapter 12 pages 287-308.
- There were three worksheets handed out on Friday for homework – due
Monday. All three are located under ‘files’ on snap grades.
- One additional ‘translation’ worksheet will be handed out on
Monday – it is due Tuesday.
- Lab on Monday – Lab will be due Wednesday
- Chapter 12 test on Thursday, December 11 & Friday, December 12 –
the review is available on my website or in the snap grades files.
- Final Exam: Biology Final exam is one 50 minute period on Wednesday, December
17th. The final exam will be completely scantron. Students should review old
review sheets from previous chapters, textbook, worksheets, labs, etc…

- 12/06 – Last day to do online quizzes.
- 12/08 – Due date for Waves Project. Presentations also start on this
day.
- 12/10 – Test on Chapters 13-15
- 12/11 – Last day to turn in index card formulas. This card may be
used during the test, but only one 4X6 card is allowed.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- Chapter 6.4-6.7, focusing on:
- Similar Triangles;
- Proportionality Theorem;
- Similar transformations;
- Review of Chapter 6 (Friday, 12/12/08)
- Chapter 6 Test will be Mon. 12/15/08.
- Tue.—Wed. (12/16-12/17) Chapter 1-5 review;
- ** Final Exam (50 Min. and includes Chapter 1-6) will be on Thursday
(12/18).
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- The project is due Monday, December 15. If it is turned in early, students
will receive extra credit. (Only 8 students turned it in this week for 10
points extra credit, but it can still be turned in early next week for 5 points
extra credit).
- The last normal test of the grading cycle is Monday, December 15
- We will be reviewing for the final in class Tuesday-Thursday Dec 16-18.
The review packet will count as the final quiz grade
- The final exam is Friday, December 19. The questions will be from the old
tests, so students should look over and study their old tests.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students will be expected to begin to finalize their Finals project. We
will also begin a short unit on Gastronomia (food!). The finals requirement,
as presented to the students in written form is as follows:
- Spanish 1 final, first semester, SY 08-09.
- No later than November 24, students will be assigned the project of producing
a Visual Representation from The Burning Season, the Chico Mendes story.
The circumstances surrounding Chico Mendes’ life resulted in worldwide
attention being directed, for the first time, to the deterioration of the
world’s largest rainforest. Students will be graded on creativity, effort,
rudimentary use of Spanish, and how well it illustrates the world’s
rainforest concern. All projects will be due on Monday, Dec. 15. Projects
will be individually presented Dec.15th thru 18th.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Students will begin chapter 3A.
- Quiz on the vocabulary on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
- Quiz on a song on Friday.
- Various activities and homework assignments will be completed to ensure
the understanding of grammatical concepts, reading and listening strategies.

From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 is remaining in motion through Stage 8 this week.
- The midterm for all Latin classes will consist of two unreleased NLE’s.

From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 has an ideal house project and a calendar project. They will receive
the rubrics for both in class. They may only work on the projects in class.
French 2 has a listening part of the final based on the movie Les Choristes.
Their speaking event is their Monsieur and Mademoiselle France project. They
will write a short fable and a short story based on what we have studied.
