CVHS 9th grade email update for November 21st, 2008
General Info:
- Early Dismissal on Tuesday, November 25th. Thanksgiving break starts on
Wednesday, November 26th and students return to school on Monday, December
1st.
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the green
and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to bring it
to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful recycling
dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on October

- The English department is planning a literary tour of Dublin and

- 9th grade students were given their final project today. The single project
will count as part of the final exam grade in Biology, English, and World
Geography. The project is due on Monday, December 15th. Students should begin

From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Test on Monday 11/24 – writing and graphing linear equations in point-slope,
slope-intercept, and standard form
- Project 2 was assigned today. It is due on Monday, December 15. Students
should do it long before then because they will have other major assignments
in other classes at the end of the semester. I recommend getting it done over
Thanksgiving. To encourage this I will give 5 points extra credit on the project
for each week it is turned in early (so 5 points if turned in the week of
Dec 8, 10 points if turned in the week of Dec 1)
- We have two quizzes remaining for this cycle – one will be an actual
quiz in class on Friday 12/5, the other will be a quiz grade for the final
exam review packet which will be due on Tuesday 12/16.
- Our last test of this cycle will be on Friday 12/12.
- We will be having a final exam in class during the last week of the semester.
It will be split on Wednesday 12/17 and Thursday 12/18. The final will largely
be taken from the tests from this semester, so students should study their
old tests. I have been telling them this all year, so they should have saved
their old tests and made corrections on them when we went over them in class.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students will present and turn in their individual mini-stories. Monday
they will take a short quiz on personal hygiene items and items of clothing.
Tuesday, students will have time to familiarize with language software on
the classroom computers. I hope all have a happy dia de accion de gracias.

- Latin 1 has finished Stage 6 with its regular perfect tense verbs, and is
now exploring the irregular perfect tenses..
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 has an ideal house project. French 2 is working on a fairy tale
incorporating the passé simple.

- Health: Essay, students will choose a topic from the list I gave them on
Monday. The essay should be between 750 to 1000 words with double space and
it is due on Monday November 24.
