CVHS 9th grade email update for November 7th, 2008
General Info:
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the green
and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to bring it
to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful recycling
dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us.
- The Thespian Society will be performing their first play for the 2008-2009
school year. They will be putting on Alice in Wonderland.
The directorial choices for this play have married a dark Tim Burton-esque
theme to Louis Carroll’s original stories. Tickets are $7 presale and
$10 at the door. Contact Mrs. Bibeau to reserve your tickets – bbibeau@houstonisd.org.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on October

- The English department is planning a literary tour of Dublin and

one to practice with
- Tuesday – students will define character through character poem
- Wednesday – students will block monologue
- Thursday – students will work on voice and diction

13 & 14) – review sheets were handed out in class on Friday and

From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- We are continuing to work on Chapter 4 (graphing linear equations both in
standard form and slope intercept form)
- The homework assignment that was originally due Friday has been pushed back
to Monday (we aren’t quite done with everything from that section yet)
- We will have a test over Chapter 4 next Thursday, November 13
- The test review for the next test will be handed out Monday and I will post
a solution guide on Snapgrades
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- More TPR with new vocabulary. The change this week is that we will transition
into TPRS (storytelling). The first exercise will be in small groups, 3-5,
producing a mini-story using props I will provide. The group will present
the story in class, as well as turning in a handwritten copy. Practice is
necessary at home. Speaking aloud in Spanish is imperative. Keep pushing them.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Continue with chapter 2A
- Culture Point: A Succinct History of Mexico chapter 4. A quiz will
be given on Friday over the reading.
- A song quiz on Friday.
- Grammar point: Possessive adjectives.
- Test on Wednesday for Chapter 2A.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 will spend the week in Stage 6 and the Imperfect Tense.
- Magistra has in-service on Tuesday, which will put the Stage 6 MC into early
the following week.
- Latin 2 and 3 are wrapping up the focus on verbs/nouns/pronouns, and will
shift back to applying the knowledge via reading.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- The projects are the same as last week.
- Texas French Symposium practice begins this week.

- Health: Students should keep working on their presentation on the chapters
assigned to them.
