CVHS 9th grade email update for October 31st, 2008
General Info:
- CVHS has early dismissal on Tuesday, November 4th and Wednesday, November
5th. Student will be released from school at 1:30pm.
- 1st Annual CVHS Fall Festival and Dance on Friday, November 7th from 4 p.m.
until 9 p.m.
- It will include games, moonwalks, bands, and food.
- The tickets will go on sale Monday. I think they will be $5 in advance
and $8 at the gate.
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we only do paper) to school
and either drop it in the green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school
or ask your child to bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to
keep our wonderful recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for
helping us.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on October

- Students will be learning articulation and inflection through tongue twisters
- How can you help? A good way to help your child practice is to sing songs
in the car/shower/room emphasizing every consonant and vowel sound.

- We are continuing chapter 2. Students should be reviewing their notes and
the book.
- Lab on Thursday and Friday. Students must wear appropriate shoes and have
their hair tied back.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- 11/03 – Unit 3b TEST (Chapters 7-9). There will definitely be word
problems on electricity and half-life so be familiar with the formulas including
the symbols and units that go with them.
- 11/05 – Due date for lab report on “Radioactive Decay Simulation.”
Make sure the graph and handout are both attached.
- 11/07 – Due date for “Solar Cooker” project and its accompanying
write-up. Remember that the write-up needs to be specific.
From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We will continue to learn Chapter 4, Section 4.4-4.6,
- Focusing on Prove Triangles Congruent by SSS, SAS, AAS, ASA, etc.
- A quiz for 4.4-4.6 will be on Friday, 11/07/08.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Test 3 has been pushed back to Monday 10/27 – it will be on next grading
cycle
- We will start Chapter 4 on Wednesday
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- In and around more new vocabulary, students will learn about La Tomatina!
Simple sentences will then be the order of the day while they learn to work
with their Cheat Sheets (list of high frequency words). Then maybe some short
short stories but if not then early the following week. Thanks for all you
do with your students at home.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- On Monday we will begin Chapter 2A. We will have a quiz on Tuesday and Wednesday.
We will also have a song quiz and packet quiz on Friday. We will continue
to read A Succinct History of Mexico. Throughout the week, we will
be reviewing grammatical concepts and doing activities to help reinforce vocabulary
and grammar.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 is into Stage 5 and plurals. The multiple choice could be as early
as Friday.
- Latin 2 and 3 continue to focus on verb conjugation structure, to good effect.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 has an animal family tree project.
- French 2 will produce and act in their version of the 8th day.
