CVHS 9th grade email update for October 24th, 2008
General Info:
- All students will be going to the Renaissance Festival on Tuesday, October
28th. It is a school wide field trip. There is no fee for the student (but
they should bring money to buy lunch there). Permission slips will be handed
out next week.
- Next week is Spirit Week. The days are:
Monday – Twin Day
Tuesday – Color day/Renaissance Festival
Wednesday – Formal day/ Yearbook picture day
Thursday – Cross Dress Day
Friday – Best Costume Day
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we only do paper) to school
and either drop it in the green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school
or ask your child to bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to
keep our wonderful recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for
helping us.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on October
8, 2008. So if you are interested, please let me know, or sign up to lock

- Wednesday – students will practice reciting “Twinkle, Twinkle”
using projections – assignment grade

- Friday – students will practice articulation using tongue twisters

- Rainforest Feast on Wednesday, October 29th – this was handed out
in class on Friday and there is a copy of it on my website
- We will begin chapter 2 on Thursday. Students should read 35-43 by Thursday.

- On Monday, we will do a lab that simulates nuclear decay. This lab starts
off Chapter 9 and 10 which will be discussed starting Wednesday.

Packets are due on Friday, October 31st;
Project on Solar Cookers is due on Friday, November 7th (both the machine
and the write-up).
From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We begin to learn Chapter 4,
- 4.1. Apply Triangle Sum Properties;
- 4.2. Apply Congruence and Triangles;
- 4.3. Prove Triangles Congruence.
- We will have a Quiz for 4.1-- 4.3 on Friday, 10/31/08.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Test 3 has been pushed back to Monday 10/27 – it will be on next grading
cycle
- We will start Chapter 4 on Wednesday
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- We will review body parts. The classroom will be prepared for 1-2 November
Dia de los Muertos celebraciones on Friday. (Spanish teachers will cook patacones
and other surprises. Students are asked to bring at least 1 green plantain
(looks like a big banana, is very firm and is frequently labeled as platano
or gineo macho. Please, the greener the better!))
- We will also TPR more new vocabulary.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Students will continue reading A Succinct History of México.
They will have a song quiz on Friday. We will also review Hace + time expressions
to tell how long someone has been doing something. We will review for a test
on Chapter 1B on Wednesday. Their test for the chapter will be on Thursday.
We will begin chapter 2A on Friday.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 will have the Stage 4 test on Tuesday or Wednesday.
- Latin 2 is consolidating their command of indicative verbs.
- Latin 3 is consolidating their command of all verb structures.

- French 1 will begin the family tree project.
- French 2 will continue to write their detective story.
