CVHS 9th grade email update for October 17th, 2008
General Info:
- The end of the grading cycle is Friday, October 24th.
- All students will be going to the Renaissance Festival on Tuesday, October
28th. It is a school wide field trip. There is no fee for the student (but
they should bring money to buy lunch there). Permission slips will be handed
out next week.
- Wednesday, October 29th is picture day (for the yearbook)
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we only do paper) to school
and either drop it in the green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school
or ask your child to bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to
keep our wonderful recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for
helping us.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on October

From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre):
- Students will be continuing movement on stage through script
- Students will learn how to read a script and place movement to written word
- Students will practice with a neutral scene (with partner ) and perform
scene (quiz)
- Students will have a written test on Friday incorporating stage directions,
stage positions, levels and lines, and basic script analysis.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- We’ll start with chapter 8 next week. Students will also do labs where
they build an electroscope and get to work with magnets. They will also have
class time to get together with their group regarding their solar cookers.
- Reminders: (a) Do your online quizzes. You have the whole of Saturday, but
do not wait until the last minute and run the risk of getting cut-off. (b)
Do the rest of your packet. This is due by October 31st.
From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We will learn 3.4-3.6 about prove perpendicular and parallel lines, as well
as the slope of the lines.
- Thursday has a review and Friday has Chapter 3 Test.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Project due on Thursday 10/23 – worth 20% of the 9-weeks grade (this
was assigned on Tuesday 10/7)
- Test 3 (over chapter 3 – Solving Linear Equations) is on Friday 10/24.
Since tests are 50% of the grade and this is the third test, it is worth 16.67%
of the 9-weeks grade
- Homework Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night. Homework on Wednesday will
be a test review that is due Thursday. Students need to spend sufficient time
on the test review to prepare for the test. No written homework Thursday,
but students should be studying (we will go over the test review in class
on Thursday so they should know what to study).
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Spanish I: Students will continue with TPRing of new vocabulary. An assessment
(short test) will be done on next Wednesday which will be the final grade
counted for the 9 weeks. Students should be, as always, practicing at home.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- We will begin Chapter 1B and they will continue reading A Succinct History
of Mexico chapter 3. They will have a vocabulary quiz on Monday and another
on Tuesday. Also, they will have their song quiz and quiz over chapter 3 of
the reading on Friday. We will create skits, dialogues, and other activities
to strengthen communicative skills throughout the chapter.
