CVHS 9th grade email update for October 3rd, 2008
General Info:
- Progress Reports were distributed today.
- No school on Thursday, October 9th.
- All 9th graders will be going on a field trip to the Museum of Natural
Science on Wednesday, October 15th. Please email Mrs. Matsu if you’d
like to chaperone (mmatsu@houstonisd.org)
- Grades are online for most 9th grade classes : https://snapgrades.net/login/school.php?16527
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we only do paper) to school
and either drop it in the green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school
or ask your child to bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order
to keep our wonderful recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks
for helping us.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on
October 1, 2008. So if you are interested, please let me know, or sign up

- Monday:
- Students understand stage terminology through stage tic-tac-toe
- Students will advance lesson by adding movements with directions
- Students will practice audience etiquette
- Tuesday:
- Students will form pairs and use blocking strategy to create a logical
progression of movements on stage
- Students will practice audience etiquette
- Wednesday:
- Students will form pairs – facing each other – and concentrate
on mirroring each other’s exact movements
- One of each pair of students will be given a word and will sculpt
the other into a position. (Critical thinking and use of movement)
- Friday:
- As a class, students will participate in charades to develop realistic/believable
movements on stage (grade)
- Students will practice audience etiquette
From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):

From Ms. Bullis (English I):

- Microscope Lab is due on Monday.
- Students should begin reading chapter 3.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- We will finish up with the Pendulum Lab on Monday. Please remember to do
the word problems from the book using the GUESS method (practice problem on
p104 and #7 on p105).
- The rest of the week will be spent on Chapters 5 and 6.
Reminders:
- Start researching on your solar cookers.
- Start working on your Unit 3 packet.
- Check the class website: your online quizzes for Chapters 4 – 6 are
already up, and they will be available for you up to October 10th.
- The test for the first part of Unit 3 will be on Monday, October 13th.
From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- 2.6 and 2.7 for Reasoning and Proving on Mon. & Tue
- 3.1 and 3.2 for Parallel & Perpendicular Lines from Wed. to Thu.
- Friday (10/10/08) is the test for Chapter 2.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Test 2 is Monday. (students completed a test review for homework Thursday
night and discussed it in class Friday)
- Project 1 will be assigned on Tuesday.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students will be doing TPR everyday with the exception of Presentation of
La Bamba Visual Representations on Tuesday.
- This year's freshmen are better than ever!
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Go over present tense stem-changing verbs.
- Students will read the packet on A Succinct History of México and
have a quiz on it on Tuesday.
- Students will go over the importance of the Spanish Civil War and how it
relates to modern day history.
- We will work on various activities to strengthen communicative skills in
Spanish during class.

- French 1 will have an oral and written exam on the present tense conjugation
of regular verbs.
- French 2 will have a quiz on the near future and the recent past.
From Mr. Rodriguez (Art):
- Art I students will have their first unit test on Monday.
