CVHS 9th grade email update for September 11th, 2009
General Info:
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring two summer international trips. Both trips are
currently accepting students and parents.
- July 2010 – Costa
Rica (price goes up Oct 1, but you can sign up anytime)
- Summer 2011 – Japan
(The price will go up after September 3rd, so if you are interested,
please let her know)
- All 9th graders have received a PSAT study booklet. All 9th, 10th, and
11th grade students will be taking the PSAT on October 14th.
From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre):
- Monday: Students will begin pantomime unit and start learning observation
techniques Hmwk – observe someone’s walk
- Tuesday: Students will watch each person’s imitated walk and will
conclude character generalizations of that person; Hmwk – observe
someone eat
- Wednesday: Students will watch each person perform and conclude character
attributes: Hmwk – observe vocal uses
- Thursday: Students will perform voices and conclude character attributes:
Hmwk – 2 minutes alone – self observation
- Friday: Students will perform their 2 minutes alone and conclude believability
From Ms. Moumni and Mr. Swenson (AP Human Geography):
- Monday their current event is due.
- Tuesday they will have a quiz on Africa and Russia
- During the whole week we will finish the political and different thematic
maps of Asia the Americas and Australia
- Thursday is a review day
- They have their first test on Friday the 18th

From Mr. Li and Mr. Schenke (Geometry):
- We continue to study Chapter 2 from 2.2 to 2.4 Monday to Wednesday,
- Focusing on Conditional Statement and Deductive Reasoning;
- Assignment:
- 2.2. #1-19, 22-23;
- 2.3. #1-14;
- 2.4. #3-10, 14-25;
- Review for 2.1-2.4 will be on Thursday, PSAT/SAT practice;
- Quiz for 2.1 to 2.4 will be on Friday.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- I will give back the tests (from Thurs 9/10) on Monday or Tuesday
- We started Unit 2 on Friday 9/11
- Homework will come largely from the text book this week

From Mr. Beall (Spanish I & II):
- Spanish I: Test over the preliminary chapter on Monday, Sept. 14 (postponed
from the previous Friday). Commence Chap. 1A (pg.24 - 39). Homework assignments
will include daily reading and/or writing exercises.
- Spanish II: Test over the summer reading either Wednesday or Thursday
(postponed from the previous week to allow for more time to analyze and
process the info. contained therein. They will then resume and finish their
studies in the preliminary chapter following the summer reading test. Upon
completion of the preliminary chapter, they can expect a test either Friday
(9/18) or the following Monday.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 is in Chapter 2 and learning about the Roman family. All Chapter
1 activities should be finished and turned in during the first half of this
week.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 will continue to learn greetings, numbers, verb conjugations,
definite and indefinite articles and about French culture and the francophone
world. They will discuss their completed in class project, the ideal class
room, and talk about what they like to do in French.
- French 2 will learn to sing“ Vois sur ton chemin”, Discuss
in French the movie Les Choristes, talk about what they did, used to and
will do, discuss family members, write about their school experiences compared
to the characters in Les Choristes and listen to and compare 2 versions
of “ Vois sur ton chemin”.
From Ms. Casperson (Debate):
- Students will continue to learn the fundamentals of developing an argument.
- CURRENT EVENT ASSIGNMENT: Due every Friday
Mr. Lamane and Ms. Terry (P.E.):
Mr. Lamane
- Health: Chapter 3
- Project due on Wednesday: students should select one of the health care
specialists listed in figure 3.3 as the topic of a short research report.
Find out about required education and training, the range of health services
offered, and the career prospects for that specialty. Students should summarize
their findings in brief written reports.
- PE: We will start VB unit
- FPF: we will finish chapter 1 and start chapter 2
- Project: Students should complete interviews with members of their extended
families (parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles) to gain information
about illnesses and health and fitness behaviors. From their findings, they
construct a family tree that contains information about the family health
history. Match the family members’ health and fitness behaviors with
their illnesses.
