CVHS 9th grade email update for September 5th, 2008
General Info:
- The 9th grade email update is also available on the web at:
http://www.gradientphil.com/matsu/9gradeupdate.htm it will be uploaded
each Friday evening.
- OPEN HOUSE is at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 17th.
Please plan to attend.
- Grades online: Many of the 9th grade teachers are switching
to a program called Snap Grades (https://snapgrades.net/login/),
which allows you to view student grades online. Currently Biology, World
Geography, and English I are using the program, but it appears that IPC,
Algebra I, and Geometry will be joining us soon. You should have received
an email with a link to log in. If you have not yet received this email
or are having problems, please email Mrs. Matsu.
- Students who ride the Bus: Students received an HISD
Bus Rider’s Agreement. This agreement was due today (signed by a parent).
The agreement must be turned in no later than Monday 9/8/08 or else students’
names will be removed from the bus rosters, and students will not be able
to ride the bus. A copy of the bus
rider’s agreement is attached.
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. This will be her 6th trip with students and her 3rd trip
with students to Australia . If you are interested in this trip please see

Students, Parents, and siblings are welcome to join us. Prices go up on
October 1, 2008. So if you are interested, please let me know, or sign up
to lock in the current price.

- Food Security: Recently, countries suffering from widespread hunger
turned away food aid derived from genetically modified (GM) crops. Others
are suspicious of food that has been irradiated to prevent it from rotting
before reaching the consumer.
- Are fears regarding GM crops and irradiated foods justified? Or
do these fears stem from ignorance that unnecessarily blocks food
from reaching the hungry?

- IPC (September 8-12):
- For the whole week, we’ll be discussing and doing some activities
regarding Newton ’s Laws of Motion. Be reminded that you’ll
have your test on Unit 2 on Monday, September 15th.
From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- Learn Chapter 1.6 and 1.7, as well as 2.1. Thursday has a review of chapter
one and Friday, 09/12/08 will have the chapter one test.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Test on Unit 1 on Tuesday, September 9
- A review sheet will be given out Friday in class and completed by the students
as homework over the weekend. We will go over it in class on Monday and review
for the test. Students should study the review sheet and notes from class
(particularly handouts we completed).
- Because of the test, there will be no Algebra 1 homework on Tuesday.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Spanish 1 will continue with TPR and the first test on everything we have
covered thus far will be on next Friday.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- We will continue reviewing Spanish 1 material. We will focus on asking
and answering simple questions in the present tense with regular verbs. They
will have an oral quiz (Wednesday) taking turns asking and answering questions.
They will also have a vocabulary quiz (Tuesday). There will be a test on Friday
over the Spanish 1 review.
