CVHS 9th grade email update for May 15th, 2009
General Info:
- We had a cancellation on the Australia & New Zealand trip
for this July. If you are interested in going, please email me as soon as
possible. It’s not too late!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a trip to Costa Rica in June 2010.
She has brought students there twice before and each time students absolutely
love it! The cost is $1936 per student (parents and siblings are welcome

- CVHS Awards Ceremony is on Monday, May 18th starting
at 6pm (dinner) and 7pm (awards). EVERYONE is encouraged to attend. Awards
will be given out at all grade levels and classes, so everyone should be
there. Student DO NOT have to pay to get into the awards at 7pm (only payment

- Final exams begin on Friday, May 22. There are two exams
a day and each exam lasts two hours.
- Friday May 22 – period 1, 2
- Tuesday, May 26 – periods 3, 4
- Wednesday, May 27 – periods 5, 6
- Thursday, May 28 – periods 7, advocacy

From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre & Comm Apps):
Theatre I:
- Monday – Thursday review improvisation, monologues, ensemble, and
design
- Finals – students will pick a performance (ensemble or monologue).
They will have one hour to work on performance using voice, movement, blocking,
memorization (they will be allowed to use script during performances. Scripts
will be short and easy to memorize which will aid in their performance),
etc. The second hour, they will have to perform the script.
Communication Applications:
- Monday – Completion of test
- Tuesday – Thursday – in class review of content (students
will receive a topic outline that they will need to use for studying.) Students
may check out a book from me, but must return on day of final.
- Finals – students will take a written test covering all of the concepts
from the semester.
From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):
- Geography -- Review for final exam
From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- Literary Term Project is due Monday, May 18th. (Project was assigned on
4/20.)
- A hardcopy of the final exam essay should be turned in to me in class
on May 21st and submitted online to www.turnitin.com by 11:59 pm
May 20th.
- Essays should by typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12pt font,
and a minimum of 500 words. No second person should be used!
- All information for the final exam can be found on the class website.
The students will also receive a hard copy of the information in class Friday,
May 15th. Students need to bring their review packet to class every day
during dead week. This review packet is extremely important when studying
for the final exam.

From Mrs. Matsu (Biology):
- Test on Tuesday over the pig anatomy and organ functions.
- The final exam will be all multiple choice. Each student will be allowed
one 3x5 note card with whatever information they would like on it. It may
be typed or hand written. I will supply the notecards next week.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- Test on Chapter 25 is on Monday, May 18th. The rest of the week will be
devoted to reviewing for the finals which will cover chapters 16-25.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- Monday to Thursday for Chapter 7-12 review;
Final Exam begins at 05/22/09, Covering Chapter 7-12,
2 hour long;
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Project due Wednesday May 20 (this was assigned on Wednesday May 6)
- We will be reviewing for the final exam on Monday-Thursday. Students should
start by reviewing their old tests from this semester. We will also review
in class.
- The final exam will be half multiple choice and half free-response. The
students have a 2 hour block of time to take each final, and they should
expect to spend at least 1 hour and 30 minutes of their Algebra final actually
working on it. Some students will probably take the entire period, while
some may finish early.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Spanish 1 students will review intensively for the final. They are pushed
and constantly told to take notes. A word bank will be provided. If students
take notes AND study them, they will do well on the Final.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- We are reviewing for the final exam. Students have a packet that will
help them with the final. We will be working on it in class. The final will
be multiple choice; similar to the tests they have had all year.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 is aiming at the end of Stage 18 for our stopping point for the
year.
- The final on Friday the 22nd will consist of the familiar NLE/Cambridge/AP-style
reading passages @ 100 questions.
- Review of “the back of the book” – including all starred
vocabulary – is highly recommended.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 is reviewing for the final exam. They especially need to know
vocabulary for the parts of the body, professions, school, art, clothing,
televison, movies, illness, their daily routine etc.
- Students need to know the usage and placement of object pronouns, y, en,
prepositions with cities and countries, connaître and savoir. They
must know the present indicative conjugation of all regular and irregular
verbs, the present imperative of all regular and irregular verbs as well
as the pronominals , the recent past, the near future, the passé
composé and the imperfect of regular and irregular verbs. They are
expected to know about impressionist art.
- French 2 must know transportation vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, idioms
with avoir, vocabulary from Au Revoir les Enfants and Chocolat. They must
know the conjugation of regular verbs, irregular verbs and pronominal verbs
in the present indicative and imperative tenses, the present subjunctive,
the passé compose, the imparfait, the simple future, the conditional,
the passé simple, the pluperfect, the past conditional, the present
participle and the past infinitive. They must know interrogative pronouns
and adjectives as well as relative pronouns and the formation of the comparative
and superlative.
From Mr. Rodriguez (Art):
- Art I students will have completed their narrative paintings by Monday,
May 18th. Make-up days for drapery studies and other projects will be May
19th, 20th and 21st.
- The final exam will consist of a written portion on Greek art, figure
studies and painting, as well as a drawing portion.
From Mr. Lamane and Ms. Terry (P.E.):
Health:
- Students will review chapter 3, 4, 5, 6, and12. The questions on the final
are going to be from the question bank they will receive in class.
