CVHS 9th grade email update for May 2nd, 2009
General Info:
- Because of the inclement weather this week, we will have our last TAKS
test on Monday. 9th graders will have a guest speaker while 10th and 11th
graders take TAKS.
- We had a cancellation on the Australia & New Zealand trip
for this July. If you are interested in going, please email me as soon as
possible.

- Last College assignment due Friday May 8th
- Test: Thursday and Friday May 14 and 15 Chapter 13 and 14
From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- College Essay #4 due – 5/8
- Literary Term Project is due – 5/15
- Vocabulary Quiz – 5/13
- End of Course LTF test starts next week. It will last over three days.
5/7-8 will be the multiple choice, and the essay portion will be 5/12.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- 5/04 – Test on Chapter 23. Packet for the same chapter is also due
that day.
- We will start the lesson on “Acids, Bases, & Salts” next
week.
- Be reminded that the last two projects are due on May 15th:
- Supersaturated Solution Project should have been started already since
that takes a while to finish. Progress pictures should be taken and submitted
by email.
- Acid-Base Indicator Project will be demonstrated on May 8th to give students
an idea of what to do. Then they will have to devise their own.
- Procedure write-up is needed for both projects.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- Tuesday to Wednesday, Review for EOC/LTF;
- Thursday to Friday, 5/7--5/8, EOC Geometry Test
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- On Tuesday and Wednesday students will take the Laying the Foundation
EOC test. This is a challenging test designed to see how well
- they can apply the concepts they have learned all year. This test will
not count as a class grade, but I will award some extra credit for good
scores so students need to take it seriously.
- On Thursday I will hand out the project for the last grading cycle. It
is due on Monday, May 18.
- On Thursday we will start our last unit, which bridges Algebra to geometry
and focuses on reducing radicals and expressions with radicals. Some homework
assignments will be from the book and some will be handouts. Check SnapGrades
early next week for the assignments.
- We will have one more quiz and one more test before starting to review
for final exams.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students will work on general T/F statements and key vocabulary on Pobre
Ana/Patricia Va a California . The AP stories Carta a Dios and Margarita's
Chemise will be discussed and specific questions will be picked. The AP
poem Cancion del Pirata will be reviewed and practice questions will be
outlined. The Goya movie will be discussed as well as the Roma and Pablo
Neruda's AP poetry and key vocabulary.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Next week we will begin chapter 6A. Students will complete activities
at home as well as in class to reinforce learned material. Students will
also have a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday and Wednesday. The grammar lessons
in this chapter are: Other reflexive verbs, and Preterite of –ir
stem-changing verbs.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 has reached Stage 16, a common target of Latin teachers nationwide.
- The 16 assessment has revealed a need for some grammar consolidation before
we relocate to Roman Egypt.

- Art I students are to complete 30 figure studies, a narrative synopsis
and a preparatory sketch before starting their narrative painting.
