CVHS 9th grade email update for April 23rd, 2010
General Info:
- TAKS testing is on April 27-30th. These are regular school days with no
early dismissal. Because of TAKS, students will have shortened classes in
the afternoon.
- AP: No AP Saturday review for 9th graders.
- Final Exams will take place on May 24-27. On those days there will be
early dismissal at 12:45pm. Students take two exams a day (each 2 hours
long) and then are released from school.
- Final Exams are not cumulative and do not include first semester work.
The final exams count 20% of the semester average and each cycle counts
40%.
From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre I):
- Monday-Exam over Makeup concepts
- Tuesday – Relaxation exercise
- Wednesday – open theatre game – review of acting
- Thursday – open theatre game – review of acting
- Friday – Open theatre game – review of acting skills
- Note: Mrs. Harris will be taking over theatre classes next week through
the end of the year. I will be on maternity leave. You can contact her at

From Ms. Moumni and Mr. Swenson (AP Human Geography):
Ms. Moumni
- We are now in full review mode and the students need to follow the schedule
presented last week.
- Due to TAKS this week will be very short as far as review however all
the 9th graders will have an AP practice exam Friday the 30th of April.
This test will be counted as a major grade for this last cycle.

- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday will be TAKS days.
- Wednesday will however our last review day to finalize the preparation
for the AP practice test.
From Ms. Bullis and Ms. Harris (English I):
Ms. Bullis
- Research paper is due before 1st period on Monday, 4/26. The paper should
be submitted to www.turnitin.com by
11:59 pm on Sunday, 4/25.

- The final research paper is due April 26th before 1st period. Submit the

Paper” binder—it is outlined in the assignment what should be
in it. The assignment can be found on the class website.
- PLEASE help your student by having them read their paper out loud to you
before they turn it in. Give them feedback on any changes they should make—including
awkward wording, unclear sentences/ideas, reorganization of sentences/paragraphs.
THEN have them make changes and read it out loud again. This process can
make a tremendous difference in their final grade.
- They have been encouraged to email conference with me over the weekend
if they should have any questions or need any feedback.

From Mrs. Matsu and Ms. Alcoriza (Biology):
- Biology will continue Evolution.
- Some assignments will vary between Alcoriza and Matsu due to TAKS.
- In Matsu : Video quiz on Tuesday and Wednesday over the Galapagos Video.
- In Alcoriza: Amino Acid lab is on Monday in class.

From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- The 9th grade Math TAKS is on Thursday
- We will be reviewing for the TAKS Monday-Wednesday
- The project for this cycle (which was assigned on April 12) is due on
Monday May 10 at 8:30AM. It may be turned in early for extra credit
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 has a booklet project about when they were 10 years old. French
2 will have a film project.
From Ms. Harris (Communication Applications):
- The students will continue conducting research and outlining their persuasive
speech. Their outline will be due on Friday April 30 for a quiz grade and
they will present their persuasive speeches May 4-7 for a test grade.
