CVHS 9th grade email update for April 3rd, 2009
General Info:
- Report cards came out this past Wednesday, April 1.
- School Holiday : Friday April 10th.
- We had one student cancellation on the Australia & New Zealand
trip for this July. If you are interested in going, please email me as soon
as possible.
From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre & Comm Apps):
From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):
- Start Chapter 12 South Asia
- Group Paper due Monday April 13th. This may be last weekend for some of
the students to work together. Some of our students have family and religious
obligations next weekend.
- Third college paper due Thursday April 16th.
From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- Please have your copy of Slaughterhouse-Five by Monday 4/6.
- Source Cards are due 4/6.
- Thesis and Outline are due 4/9.

From Mrs. Matsu (Biology):
- Video quiz over “Great Transformations” on Tuesday.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- Next week, we will continue with the lesson on ‘Chemical Reactions.’
You will also be given time to get together with your group mates to decide
on your bottle rocket design.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We will study Chapter 12.1-12.3 from Monday to Wednesday, Focusing on
Surface areas of Solids, like prism, cylinder, pyramids and cones, some
trig. knowledge needed;
- Thursday has a review of 12.1—12.3 in first half;
- All assignments are on the SnapGrades;
- 12.1—12.3 Quiz is on Thursday, (20 minutes long) 04/09/09,
- Friday has no class.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Test on Tuesday over graphing quadratic functions – includes factoring,
complete the square, and quadratic formula (students will be required to
use all 3 methods to find x-intercepts on the test)
- On Wednesday and Thursday we will work on Exponent Laws.
- The following two weeks will be spent reviewing geometry and other concepts
from 8th grade that are on the 9th grade TAKS but are not objectives in
Algebra 1. There will still be nightly homework and it won’t just
be straight TAKS practice, it will include more advanced topics and help
prepare the students for when these concepts are covered with more depth
in Geometry next year.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students will begin a unit on the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. A variety
of media will be used including special features from the DVD Il Postino,
narrated by Jennifer Beals and the movie soundtrack which has Hollywood
stars reciting Neruda's poetry. Students will be required to write an ode
to either a vegetable or an item of clothing. A word search of key vocabulary
will be assigned as well as the routinely required accompanying sentences
in Spanish.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- On Monday, we will review for chapter 5A test. Chapter 5A test will be
on Tuesday. We will begin chapter 5B on Wednesday. Students will have a
vocabulary quiz on the first set of vocabulary words on page 288.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- The Latin 1’s have shoehorned their way through Stage 14 amid scheduling
constraints, and finished the multiple choice.
- Stage 15: Quintus and his reluctant host are off to meet King Cogidubnus!!

From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 is working on their art project. French 2 is preparing for their
children’s fairy tale and preparing a video like les Visiteurs.
