CVHS 9th grade email update for March 27th, 2009
General Info:
- Early Dismissal on Wednesday, April 1st. Dismissal is at 1:30pm.
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the
green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to
bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful
recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us. We
take catalogs and magazines!
From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre & Comm Apps):
From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):
- Group assignments have been made for the project “Development Prospectus”
due Monday April 13
- We are out of school Friday April 11. If your student has family obligations
for this weekend please inform your student he/she cannot meet that weekend
for group work. All students have been reminded in class of this possible
problem
- Chapter 11 test Thursday and Friday April 2 and 3
From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- Students need to bring 4X6 index cards and their MLA handbook every day
next week. We will be in the library finding sources for their research
paper.
- Students need a copy of Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. by 4/6.

From Mrs. Matsu (Biology):
- Students should have already read chapter 15, but please make sure they
have reviewed it.
- “Darwin’s Great Voyage” map and activity is due Wednesday,
April 1.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- We’re starting the lesson on “Chemical Reactions” next
week.
- You may start bringing in nonperishable materials for the lab. This is
to ensure that your group has the materials ready.
- 3/30 – Parental permits are due in class; Essays are due through
turnitin
- 4/06 – All lab materials should be brought to class. Those in charge
of the fruit – please do the pre-lab procedure PRIOR to coming to
school. Those in charge of the gallon just – please make sure you
clean it thoroughly.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We will study the second half of Chapter 11 (11.4-11.7) from Monday to
Wednesday, focusing on Arc length & Sector areas, Areas of regular polygons,
as well as Geometric Probability;
- The chapter 11 & TAKS related review is on Thursday;
- Friday has a test of chapter 11.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- We are currently working on graphing quadratic functions. I am writing
most of the assignments myself, but the same material is also covered in
Chapter 10 of the text
- The next test is scheduled for Monday, April 6
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- We will work on the long awaited lesson of dancing the cumbia! After I
catch my breath, we will work on some poetry with Becquer, one of the most
expressive of AP Spanish poets. Teenagers relate to Becquer because of his
passion for writing about the mysteries of love! We are also preparing for
dressing either typical 18th century or as gypsies for the International
Festival on 08\09.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- We will continue with Chapter 5A. Students will learn how to use the imperfect
tense in other situations. We will do various activities throughout the
chapter to reinforce learned material.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- JCL is back from State Convention.
- On Thursday [4/2] all Latin classes are on field trip to the Houston
MFA Afghanistan exhibit.
- Latin 1 will take the Stage 14 multiple choice on Friday, 4/3.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 is beginning their art project. French 2 is beginning their children’s
fairy tale project
From Mr. Rodriguez (Art):
- Art I students are working with color and will have a color project sheet/board
due next Friday.
From Mr. Lamane and Ms. Terry (P.E.):
- Health: Students will keep working on Chapter 3.
- Project: Students will pick a product or a health service
and do a search (review, detailed information, people’s evaluation
and feedback... ) and report all that in a presentation. Students should
start thinking about which product or service they want to talk about. I
will give more detailed guide lines about the project next week.
- PE: We will continue Wednesday’s presentation.
Students should be ready before time to present, they should have a hand
out for their classmates, and let their teacher know if there will be a
need for a projector/computer.
