CVHS 9th grade email update for February 6th, 2009
General Info:
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the
green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to
bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful
recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us. We
take catalogs and magazines!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand

From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre & Comm Apps):
Theatre Arts I
- Monday - Students will learn the basic rules and tools of ensemble
- Tuesday - Students will receive a short script and will work on the basics
of script analysis
- Wednesday – students will get into groups and come up with the basics
of blocking and map it (assignment)
- Thursday – Students will practice blocking, and performance with
script
- Friday – students will perform their scenes in front of class for
discussion on use of blocking and basic script performance

Communications Applications
- Monday – Students will receive a personal profile and will receive
training on how to format a resume properly
- Tuesday – Students will work in library to create their own resume
with proper technical usage (adapting to personal profile)
- Wednesday – Students will finish working in the library to create
their own resume with proper technical usage
- Thursday – students will exchange papers with a partner for review
on resume; teacher will provide instruction on proper interview conduct
- Friday – students will role play with a partner to be interviewed
for the job their resumes show

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- We will continue working on writing and naming chemical formulas -moving
on to covalent compounds and finally mixing ionic and covalent compounds.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We will learn 9.1—9.3 from Mon. to Wed.
- Focusing on Translate and Reflection, as well as Matrices;
- Thursday has a review and EOC Practice;
- Friday has a quiz for 8.1-8.3;
- Assignments above are on the Snapgrades.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Next week we will be starting chapter 9 (we are going to skip chapter
8 and come back to it after chapters 9 and 10)
- The next two chapters (9 and 10) introduce the students to quadratic functions.
Many extremely important concepts (graphing quadratics, factoring, finding
zeros, completing the square, quadratic formula, etc.) will be introduced
to the students for the first time. They will use these concepts heavily
in Algebra 2, Pre-calculus, and Calculus, and somewhat in Geometry.
- The project for this 9 weeks is due on Monday, February 23. A copy of
the project is posted on snapgrades.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- The banquete de lectura (banquet of reading that I cooked up) is going
well. Next week, we'll return to Pobre Ana/Patricia goes to California.
Students are to prepare this weekend for chapters 6 & 7 next week. Quiz
for 6 on Wednesday and 7 on Friday. Students should continue reading aloud
at home IN SPANISH.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- We will continue to study chapter 4A. Students will gain a better understanding
of the imperfect tense as it relates to expressing repeated actions in the
past. Also, we will begin learning about indirect object pronouns. Various
activities will be done in class and for homework to reinforce learned material.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 has just finished Stage 11, and will be in Stage 12 all this week.

From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 will create a Mr. Potato head character from Styrofoam and label
it’s parts in French and write it’s daily routine in French.
They will create a story board for idioms with faire and avoir. French 2
will create a story board for idioms with faire and learn the new vocab
for the new Petit Nicholas story.
From Mr. Rodriguez (Art):
- Art I students are to have completed all charcoal and graphite drawings
by Friday, Feb. 13.
From Mr. Lamane and Ms. Terry (P.E.):
- Health: students will have a test on Chapter 24 on Monday. Also, the project
about a communicable disease is due on 2/12/09
- FPF/PE: review Tennis hand out and online sources about Nutrition.
