CVHS 9th grade email update for January 30th, 2009
General Info:
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the
green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to
bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful
recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us.
We take catalogs and magazines!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. If you are interested in this trip please see this website

From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre & Comm Apps):
Theatre Arts I
- Monday – Wednesday – review improvisation techniques through
classroom activities designed to focus on strengthening character, plot,
and imagination
- Thursday – students will take an action-based exam utilizing all
criteria effectively through improvisation
- Friday – a special guest will come from The Alley Theatre to engage
students in a workshop focusing on ensemble
- Saturday – extra credit opportunity (10points); Need permission
slips prior to event to go.

Communications Applications
- Monday – Students will work on developing proper gestures for a
speech. Students will practice by giving directions to the class.
- Tuesday – Students will identify and explain proper dress for the
professional world (and for speeches in this class) using a visual collage
- Wednesday – Students and teacher will review Chapter 4 (Listening)
and Chapter 5 (Nonverbal communication)
- Thursday – students will have a written exam over the contents of
Chapter 4 and Chapter 5
- Friday - Students will be introduced to effective group discussion procedures
and professional/social communication

- We will begin chapter 7 (cell structure and function) on Monday.
- Students should be reading The Hot Zone. Students should read
pages 1-153 (Part 1) by Feb 6th.

From Ms. Alcoriza (IPC):
- Week of Feb 2: We will continue with Chapter 19 lessons. Study element
names and their corresponding symbols, and how to write long- and short-hand
electron configurations. You will have an in-class quiz on these on an unannounced
day.

From Mr. Li (Geometry):
- We will learn the last 3 sections of chapter 8 (8.4-8.6) from Mon. to
Wed.;
Focusing on Special Quadrilaterals, Square, Rectangles, Rhombuses, Trapezoids
and Kites;
- Thursday has review for Chapter 8 and Practice for EOC;
- Friday has a chapter 8 Test.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Students will receive their cycle project on Monday, it is due Monday
February 23 (3 weeks to complete it)
- We are finishing chapter 7 next week. Students will receive a test review
on Wednesday that is due Thursday.
- The Chapter 7 test is on Friday.
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- This week I bit off more than I could chew! It took longer than expected
to finish the first half of the readers and will just today begin on the
"Banquete de Lectura" (banquet of reading) and the myriad
of reading strategies I will "cook up". We will continue with
the "Banquete" through next week. Please push your students to
READ ALOUD, in Spanish, at home.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- We will begin chapter 4A. There will be a vocab quiz on Tuesday and Wednesday.
We will continue "A Succinct History of Mexico." We will
study the following grammar points: The imperfect tense (regular and irregular),
and indirect object pronouns.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- The Latin 1’s are in Stage 11. We will be fresh from Saturday’s
Region A competition, and there should be nothing between us and having
the multiple choice by or before Friday. Next stop, Vesuvius….
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 begin grocery store and restaurant project. French 2 prepare
for a vocabulary and grammar test, create a game using phrases that include
directions.
From Mr. Rodriguez (Art):
- There will be a unit test in Art I covering space, shape and form as
well as perspective.
