CVHS 9th grade email update for January 16th, 2009
General Info:
- No School Monday! Monday is MLK day and there is no school!
- Stanford testing will occur on Wednesday – Friday of next week.
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the
green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to
bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful
recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us. We
take catalogs and magazines!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. If you are interested in this trip please see this website

From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre & Comm Apps):
Theatre
- Students will continue to work on improvisation skills
- Tuesday (27th January), students will be quizzed on the basics of improvisation
(through an activity)
Comm Apps
- Students will be analyzing listening and non-verbal cues
- Students will be asked to demonstrate a variety of non-verbal communicators

From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):
- Finish Russian Domain Unit - Test Monday and Tuesday Jan 26th and 27th
- Second outside assignment “Economic Geography” Assigned. Due
Wednesday Feb 4th
From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- Students need to download and print out their copy of the poem packet
from the class website. Students need to bring the packet to class every
day.
- Project guidelines are now available on the class website. Project is
due 2/18!
- Vocabulary is posted on the website. Vocabulary quiz is 2/2.

- GATTACA questions are due Tuesday, January 20th.
- Students should read pages 240-253 and pages 275-278 for next week.

- We will learn 7.6 & 7.7 from 01/20-01/23 (Tue. To Fri.),
- Focusing on:

- Will have a review for Chapter 7 Thursday and Chapter 7 test is on Friday.
- *** 01/22/09 (Thursday) has Stanford 10 Math test. It’s very important!!!

From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Students just completed Chapter 6 and took a test (on Friday) –
they will receive it back next week
- We will start Chapter 7 (systems of equations and inequalities) on Tuesday
- Homework for the next chapter will be posted on snapgrades over the weekend
- The next two quizzes are tentatively scheduled for Friday 1/23 and Friday
1/30
- The next test is tentatively scheduled for Friday 2/6
From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students will read, discuss, and assess Chapter 3. It will be a light
week in Spanish due to the testing.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Next week we will continue with Chapter 3B. Students will be introduced
to irregular present participles and irregular familiar affirmative commands.
We will also review vocabulary that pertains to the lesson. Students will
read a culture point on A Succinct History of México as
well.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 is in the chapter on Roman education, and will utilize the short-class
schedule to model typical activities of a Roman school day.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 begin grocery store and restaurant project. French 2 prepare
for a vocabulary and grammar test, create a game using phrases that include
directions.
From Mr. Rodriguez (Art):
- Art I students will have two graphite still life drawings showing foreground,
middle ground and background due at the end of class on Tuesday.
From Mr. Lamane and Ms. Terry (P.E.):
- Health: Chapter 23: Search online for the list of Illegal drugs, their
effects. Also search Anabolic-androgenic steroids, their legal and social
consequences.
- FPF: We will start the chapter ‘Nutrition and your personal fitness’
on Wednesday, please bring your notebooks/books.
