CVHS 9th grade email update for January 9th, 2009
General Info:
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the
green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to
bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful
recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us. We
take catalogs and magazines!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring a 12 day trip to Australia and New Zealand
during July 2009. If you are interested in this trip please see this website

Theatre
- Students will continue to focus on the second level of improvisation
- Students will work on characterization and creating a setting

- Monday – Quiz on communication Process; discussion into nonverbal
communication
- Tuesday – Read Chapter 4 on listening strategies
- Wednesday – practice listening strategies on “I have a Dream
Speech” (in class assignment)
- Thursday – Read Chapter 5 on Non verbal communication
- Friday – discuss the effective nonverbal communication; interpret
several people’s nonverbal communication
From Mr. Swenson (World Geography):
- First college paper due Friday 1/16/09
From Ms. Bullis (English I):
- Students need to download and print out their copy of the poem packet
from the class website. Students need to bring the packet to class every
day starting Wednesday 1/14.
- Project guidelines are now available on the class website. We will be
reviewing these in class Wednesday 1/14.
- Vocabulary is now posted on the website. Please start studying now! Vocabulary
quiz is 2/2.

From Mrs. Matsu (Biology):
- Students are to finish making their Karyotype for Monday. Students only
need to finish taping down the chromosomes for Monday.
- Karyotype Quiz Monday
- Students will begin watching GATTACA in class on Tuesday. They will have
questions to complete during the video. The questions will be due Tuesday,
January 20.

From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- All of the homework assignments for this past week and this coming week
is posted on snapgrades
- We are currently working on chapter 6 from the book (inequalities) –
this week we finished sections 1-4 and next week we will spend several days
on section 7 (we are skipping sections 5 and 6)
- There is a test on Chapter 6 sections 1-4 & section 7 next Friday,

From Mr. Smith (Spanish I):
- Students have started and been assessed on Chapter 1 of the book, Pobre
Ana/Patricia Goes to California .
- Next week, chapter 2 will be read and assessed.
From Mr. Falco (Spanish 2):
- Students will continue with Chapter 3B. Monday, they will have an oral
assessment over activity 5 in chapter 3B. We will review vocabulary related
to places in the city. Also, the present progressive will be studied. Students
will have a new song and will be assessed on Friday.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 is using dialogue and storytelling to expand upon the Stage 9
stories, and the multiple choice will be before Friday.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 students will review cognates, francophone countries, the alphabet
and basic pronunciation.
From Mr. Lamane and Ms. Terry (P.E.):
- Health: Create an advertisement discouraging tobacco use, due on Monday
1/12/09. Students should use the Enrichment Activity 21 sheet which will
guide them in completing this project.
