CVHS 9th grade email update for August 28th, 2009
General Info:
- RECYCLING: Please bring all paper recycling (we recycle paper, magazines,
phone books, junk mail, etc…) to school and either drop it in the
green and yellow dumpster in the back of the school or ask your child to
bring it to the dumpster or to Mrs. Matsu. In order to keep our wonderful
recycling dumpster, we have to hit our quota. Thanks for helping us. We
take catalogs and magazines!
- Mrs. Matsu is sponsoring two summer international trips. Both trips are
currently accepting students and parents.
- July 2010 – Costa
Rica (price goes up Oct 1, but you can sign up anytime)
- Summer 2011 – Japan
(The price will go up after September 3rd, so if you are interested,
please let her know)
From Mrs. Bibeau (Theatre):
- Students will finish reading Oedipus Rex and being to discuss Greek qualities
of the play
- Students will get into groups and design the actor’s masks for a
scene
- Students will demonstrate their mask to the group and give further explanation
From Ms. Moumni and Mr. Swenson (AP Human Geography):
- We will cover the main regions, they will work individually and in groups
creating maps and inferring information from them
- They will have pop quizzes on places and locations that they have mapped
and analyzed.
- Monday I will also assigned them a project due the 25th of September
- They need to bring their color pen and pencils as well as sharpies for
the next 3 weeks!
From Ms. Bullis and Mr. Holloway (English I):
- Students will need to bring their copy of To Kill a Mockingbird
to class Monday and Tuesday of next week. For the remainder of that week,
students will need to bring their copy of Kite Runner.
- Kite Runner project is due before 8:30 am on 9/8!
- Students need to bring one of the supplies listed on the syllabus before
9/4.

From Mrs. Matsu and Ms. Alcoriza (Biology):
- Peanut Lab is due Monday
- Class rules quiz on Monday
- Required supplies are due and will be checked on Monday, 8/31
- Signed safety contract must be returned as soon as possible. They were
due already in Ms. Alcoriza’s class.
- Video quiz over Cancer Warrior on Thursday (the video is available to
be re-watched on the teacher’s website) – the video will be
viewed in class on Wednesday & Thursday

From Mr. Li and Mr. Crosier (Geometry):
- We will learn Chapter 1.4—1.6 from Mon. to Wed., focusing on Classify
angles and polygons, describing the relations of angle pairs;
- Thursday has a review for 1.4 and 1.5 as well as 1.1—1.3;
- Friday has a quiz for 1.4 and 1.5.
From Mr. Barnes (Algebra I):
- Students will continue to have homework assignments nightly. Next week
some of the homework assignments will be from the textbook.

- Test on Thursday 9/10
From Mr. Beall (Spanish I & II):
- Spanish I: We will begin Chap. 1A. Activities will include vocabulary
development, an introduction to the alphabet and its pronunciation, dictation
exercises to convert the audio exercise into a written form, an introduction
to some survival (basic) Spanish words and expressions, and some grammatical
concepts will be introduced.
- Spanish II: We will begin Chap. 1A. Activities will include vocabulary
development, a review of the alphabet and its pronunciation, dictation exercises
to convert the audio exercise into a written form, a review of some survival
(basic) Spanish words and expressions, and some grammatical concepts will
be revisited.
From Ms. Huffman (Latin):
- Latin 1 has finished the ramp-up process of meeting the course materials
and the grading setup.
- This week we will choose project work for Cycle 1. Introduction of classroom
activities will be ongoing.
From Ms. Heno (French):
- French 1 students are learning the alphabet, numbers to 100, greetings,
introductions, about the francophone world and French pronunciation.
- French 2 is reviewing all the basics learned in French 1.
From Ms. Casperson (Debate):
- Introduction to course
- Students will begin to develop public speaking skills Friday - in class
presentation of speeches
