- From Laura Mills (grade 9):
Laura Mills of Girl Scout Troop 4516 is collecting can openers for the Christian
Community Service Center, to benefit people that receive cans of food every
day but do not have the means to open them. Please drop off used or new
manual can-openers in the main office, but hurry, the project ends May 14th!

- From the Counselor:
- Students who fail a course (English, Math, Science, Social Studies
or Foreign Language) are encouraged to attend summer school. If a student
fails a course first semester with a grade of 60-69, they may be eligible
to receive Whole Course Credit if the course average at the end of the
second semester is 70. Whole course credit does not apply if the student
passed the first semester but failed the second semester.
- Students may attend summer school at their zoned school for free.
Please contact an administrator at your zoned school for information
on summer school programs and start dates. Summer school classes at
Lamar HS and HISD Virtual School are available for a fee. Students will
need an approval form signed by Ms. Maxey before they enroll at their
home school, Lamar HS, or Virtual School. Ms. Maxey will be available
the first week of June to answer questions and sign approval forms.

- On Monday and Tuesday this week we will be reviewing material from the
entire year in preparation for the LTF End of Course exam and the STAAR
End of Course exam.
- On Wednesday and Thursday we will take the LTF End of Course Exam

From Mr. Beall (Spanish):
- Span. I will do a lexical/dictionary exercise on Monday via playing Scrabble
in Spanish. On Tuesday, they will resume their studies of selections of
Spanish literature. Selections will be drawn from "Cancio'n del pirata"
by J. Espronceda, "Balada de los dos abuelos" by N. Guille'n,
"Lo fatal" by R. Dario, "Yo soy ardiente, yo soy morena"
by G.A. Becquer, "Romance del Conde Arnaldos" by an anonymous
writer, and "Romance de la perdida de Alhama" by another anonymous
writer.
- Span. II will do a lexical/dictionary exercise on Monday via playing
Scrabble in Spanish. On Tuesday they will continue their studies of selections
of Spanish literature, finishing "El delantal blanco" by S. Vodanovic,
and then moving on to the following works: "A continuidad de los parques"
by J.L. Borges, and "Tu' me quieres blanca" and "Peso ancestral"
by A. Storni.
